Activity: Living and Nonliving Sort

Step 1:  Cut out 6 pictures of objects from a magazine.

Step 2:  Sort the objects into living and nonliving categories.

Step 3:  Create 4 columns at the top of the paper labeled:  eats, grows/changes, moves, reproduces

Step 4:  Glue the items down the side.

Step 5:  Answer yes/no under each column.  Living organisms should have a yes under each column.

Home Activity

Step 1:  Choose an animal. 

Step 2:  Make a list of its needs. (What does it need to survive?  Have you listed food, water, and shelter?)

As humans, we need food, water, shelter.  Animals need food, water, shelter. Plants need air, water, nutrients, sunlight, and space.  We do not need toys, video games, candy, etc. Those are wants.
