  • Students K-4 will learn important skills presented in the Second Step Elementary digital program. The program is a web-based social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum that allows for consistency from classroom to classroom and easily scales across schools and districts. The curriculum is based on up-to-date research and feedback.

  • The school counseling program in Dickinson ISD is designed to meet the needs of all students. In addition to seeing students individually and in classroom settings, the elementary school counselors are trained to teach skills and reinforce learning in small groups. Topics may include friendship, self-control, social skills, stress management, anxiety/worry, grief, anger management, family changes, self-esteem, and/or trauma.

A teacher may refer your child for small group counseling, or you can also refer them based on areas in which your child may need support. We emphasize that groups are for everyone, participating does not indicate a problem. All students can benefit from learning how to accept responsibility, manage stress, communicate effectively, make decisions, and solve problems. Students can learn from one another and enhance their self-concepts in a supportive group setting. Each group meets once a week or once every other week. This takes place during the school day, typically during lunch time and will last for approximately 30 minutes. Most groups meet for 6-8 sessions.

If you would like your child to participate, please complete the parent acknowledgment form and return it to Lobit Elementary School as soon as possible. This allows me us to proceed with placement and scheduling. The groups will be offered based on need and interest. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Esparza at (281)229-7614 or mesparza@dickinsonisd.org.

Start with Hello Week

Start with Hello

Week of September 19th-23rd

Social isolation is a growing epidemic. In every school and community nationwide, there are young people who suffer silently because they feel left-out, alone, or invisible. Those who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and/or depression. Many then pull further away from society, struggle with learning, and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others.

Start with Hello teaches students the skills they need to see someone alone, reach out, and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation. These simple steps can have limitless ripple effects in creating a culture of inclusion and connectedness within schools and communities.

In this diverse world, STOMP Out Bullying promotes civility, inclusion and equality. It teaches effective solutions on how to respond to all forms of bullying, as well as educating students in school and online. It provides help for those in need and at risk of suicide, and raises awareness through peer mentoring programs in schools, public service announcements by noted celebrities, and social media campaigns.

STOMP Out Bullying™ says NO to victimization, NO to anti-bullying legislation that does not work and NO to the hate and intolerance of others. We do say YES to choosing kindness, YES to teaching empathy, YES to accepting others NO MATTER™ what they look like, their race, their beliefs, or gender, and YES to becoming responsible and kind digital citizens.
National Bullying Prevention

                     Unity Day                      Wednesday, October 19th

Make it ORANGE and make it end! What are your true colors when it comes to showing that you believe that all youth should be safe from bullying? Come together in one giant ORANGE message of hope and support, WEAR AND SHARE ORANGE to color our nation, and even the world, visibly showing that our society believes that no child should ever experience bullying.

“ORANGE provides a powerful, visually compelling expression of solidarity,” said Paula Goldberg, Executive Director of PACER Center. “Whether it’s hundreds of individuals at a school wearing ORANGE, store owners offering ORANGE products, or a community changing a landmark to ORANGE, the vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, sending the supportive, universal message that bullying is never acceptable behavior.”
