Hello! My name is Amber Yokum and this is my family. I am a 3rd generation graduate of Dickinson High School, class of '92. My husband, John, is a teacher and head swim/water polo coach at Alvin High School. Both my girls serve in the United States Army in different capacities. My oldest, Krysten, is 26 years old and this is her 8th year in the Army. Caitlyn is 19 and is a Combat Medic with the Texas Army National Guard. COVID 19 active duty has altered her planned studies, but she is pursuing a degree in nursing while serving with the Army National Guard. She is studying remotely with Alvin Community College around her duty hours and will transfer to Tarleton State University in Stephenville next Fall.
I am so excited for this year! This is my 6th year teaching in a public school environment and my 5th year at Barber Middle School. My teaching experience prior to public education was in the business world teaching associates from cashiers to CEOs to take care of their customers; however, my heart has always been with children and teens. I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Business Management from University of Phoenix in 2007. I am currently working toward my Master's Degree from Lamar University. I consider myself a lifelong learner and hope to create that the desire to always learn in my students.
