Happy school year 2025-2026!
My name is Jennefer Bell and I am so excited to be beginning my 10th year as your school counselor at Hughes Road Elementary!
I have been a school counselor for over 20 years at all grade levels! I have also taught kindergarten, first, 7th and 9th grades in three different school districts. I am proud to say I also recently completed my second Masters Degree in Education Technology! I have 2 children who both work in education as well!
Here is what we will be doing for Counseling Lessons this year!
Pre-K will have a lesson once per month over multiple topics including bullying, character and kindness!
Kindergarten and First Grade will have the Second Step curriculum during specials! They will be spending the first part of Technology learning the Second Step curriculum!
Second and Third Grades will receive the Second Step lessons during Brain Boost!
Additional Lessons
In addition, all classroom teachers are offered lessons each month on a variety of topics such as self-regulation, conflict resolution and career exploration.
Conversation and Coffee with the Counselor
I am excited to be offering a new opportunity for families and caregivers this year. I will be hosting a few gatherings for parents and caregivers that will be focused on supporting the social, emotional, and mental well-being of our amazing students! Be on the lookout for upcoming dates!

Career Lab
Have you heard your child talk about our Career Lab? It is a wonderful resource that we have here at HRE. Students get to experience some early career exploration activities. Teachers can sign up for a time slot for their class to explore the lab. In addition, some classes will get to attend during Brain Boost. Each month Gator Wellness Center and the Career and Technology department are spotlighting a "Career Cluster" of the month! The career lab will follow that theme. We are so fortunate that our school prioritizes the space for our lab! We are also grateful to the Education Foundation and our HRE PTO for providing funding for the materials!
I will continue to meet our students needs through classroom lessons, small groups and individual counseling.
