Mr. Braselton is in his 19th year in teaching and his 9th year as head director at Dickinson HS. In addition to conducting the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band, Mr. Braselton oversees the entire Dickinson Band program as well as teaches beginner brass classes at the Middle Schools.
Mr. Braselton holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Master of Music in Conducting degree from the University of Houston. While attending Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mr. Braselton served as the band’s president, was a member of the marching band and pep band and was principal trumpet for the Crusader Wind Ensemble. He also played on the UMHB men’s tennis team.
His teachers and mentors at UMHB include Dennis Hopkins, Carl Cooper and Coach Cohagen. During Mr. Braselton’s time at U of H, his mentors were David Bertman, Tom Bennett, John Benzer, and Eddie Green.
Mr. Braselton marched soprano bugle in 1999 with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, of Rosemont, IL.
Mr. Braselton continued his involvement in DCI by joining the staff of the Revolution Drum and Bugle corps from San Antonio, TX from 2001-2003. Revolution won the DCI Division III World Championships in 2002 as well the High Brass trophy that season.
In 2004-2005, Mr. Braselton also served as a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps’ brass staff and then joined the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle corps from 2006-2011.
Prior to returning to Dickinson High School, Mr. Braselton taught for five years in Pearland ISD, where he taught the freshman bands, marching band, as well as the beginner brass classes at Jamison, Sablatura and Rogers Middle Schools.
Mr. Braselton’s pride and joy is his family, his lovely wife Ashley, daughters Karsyn, Chandler, and Campbell, and dog Snowflake.
His bands have earned UIL Sweepstakes and he is a member of TMEA, TBA, and TSTA and serves on the UIL Music Advisory Committee.
