  1. Course Description- General Art II builds on information and skills founded in Art I. Students will continue to explore and practice the elements of art and principles of design through a variety of media, including but not limited to pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, paint, and clay. We will discuss and study works of art throughout history, and the artists who made them.

  2. Expectations –

My responsibilities as your teacher are to:

          (1) provide you with the information you need to be successful;

          (2) Provide a safe environment for you learn; and

          (3) Show courtesy and respect to my students.

Your responsibilities as a student are to

          (1) Be on time and prepared for class;

          (2) Show courtesy and respect to your fellow students and the teacher; and

          (3) Work hard and don’t give up!

All school policies and expectations will be followed in class.

Cell Phone Policy.

Cell phones are not permitted in the art studio unless they are being used as part of the lesson (for example, during a photography unit). You may not, for any reason, take a photograph of another student without that student’s permission; this violates the privacy of other students and school policy. You also are not to text, hold voice conversations, or utilize social media in class. If this rule is broken, phones will be confiscated and held until the end of class, and the student will receive a referral. A student refusing to turn over a cell phone will be sent to the Assistant Principal’s office, and receive a referral for the phone and a referral for disobedience. Other personal electronic devices (Nintendo Switch, Ipad, etc.) are subject to the same policies.

  1. Grades

Students should earn a minimum of 12 daily grades and 4 major grades per nine weeks.  Attendance is critical for success!!  Please strive to be in attendance. While doing remote learning, students’ attendance will be taken using the Daily Check-In form, which must be filled out every class day before 11:59pm. Many activities include discussions, and most projects are completed solely during class time, using classroom materials that may not be available to the student at home.  Also please note, DHS will NO LONGER allow make up time.  Students can lose credit for excessive absences (4 days in the fall and 5 days in the spring).

                      *60% - Summative Assessments – Large Projects

                      *40% - Formative Assessment – Daily Grades and Warm-Ups

  1. Late Work –

In Art II, we will follow a late work policy of 80-60-50.  This means that the first day an assignment is late, the highest grade will be an 80.  The second day an assignment is late, the highest grade with be a 60.  Assignments later than 3 days will receive nothing higher than a 50.

When you are absent it is your responsibility to make up your work.  You can access all assignments via Google Classroom, whether you are using remote or face-to-face learning.  You have three days to turn in make-up work.  Failure to make up the work in the allotted time will result in a zero.  Please have a short teacher-student conference or contact me by email if you think there are extenuating circumstances such as a prolonged illness.
