Social Studies Pre- Ap Students will participate in a history related research project under the rules and regulations of National History Day.

National History Day is a year-long academic program focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression for 6th- to 12th-grade students. By participating in NHD, students become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights and artists as they create unique contemporary expressions of history. The experience culminates in a series of contests at the local and affiliate levels and an annual national competition in the nation's capital in June.

An independent study from 2011 found that participation in the National History Day Contest benefits students far beyond the competition. National History Day not only transports classrooms back in time during the school year, it transforms young minds forever.

Below is an introduction video to this year's Theme and a link to the Website students will use throughout the process.

The National History Day website (students tab) houses incredible instruction and guidance for students through every phase of the research project. Students should be very familiar with this website and refer to it regularly to help in working through the process.

The Contest Rule book explains in detail what every element of the final presentation should have and should not have including the specifics for the Title page, Process paper and Annotated bibliography.

This is also where to find the specific requirements for each of the presentations categories: Paper, Exhibit, Performance, Website and Documentary.

When we get to the last phases of this project, this rule book should be read carefully to ensure contest rules are being observed.

The History Fair Google Classroom will provide mini lessons and checkpoint activities to guide students through the research process. New lessons, video recordings and assignments will be added as we go.
