Parents,

The best way to improve your student's accuracy and fluency in reading is through practice!  They can practice reading aloud to you, a pet, a sibling, or themselves.  There is no text that is too easy, as long as the child is engaged in reading, it is a step in the right direction!  Another fantastic way to increase their accuracy is by listening to proper reading by an adult.  Also, please be involved in your student's reading.  Ask them questions about what they are reading!  Below is a document to help you with questions you can ask as your student is reading.

To help with their writing, take the questions you ask them a step further and have them respond by writing their answers!  Check to make sure they have capital letters, punctuation, and that their sentences are complete.  The more reading and writing they do together, the better they will get.
