I am your campus Student Support Specialist, Kimberly Von Dran.  I have been with Communities In Schools - Bay Area since August 2019. I originally started in CCISD at Space Center Intermediate. Now, I am so happy to be at Bay Colony Elementary for my fourth school year! I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Houston - Clear Lake in May 2020, and I graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Houston in May 2022.

I help connect students and their families to local resources. I also work with students to help them develop a love of learning, increase their self-esteem, provide behavior intervention, basic needs assistance and improve social skills. I encourage my students and remind them that they are capable of anything. I am a trusted adult at their campus and my office is a safe space for them to come to.

I live in Webster with my husband, Theo, and our one fur child Coco who is a Long Haired Chihuahua. In my free time, I love to read, do crafts, watch movies play videogames, and spend time with my family.

Our Mission:

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

We believe that every child needs and deserves…

  • A personal one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.
  • A safe place to learn and grow.
  • A healthy start and a healthy future.
  • A marketable skill to use upon graduation.
  • A chance to give back to peers and the community.

The Supports We Offer

CIS provides ongoing one-on-one and group support services for students. We do this by utilizing regular check-ins, academic mentoring, basic needs assistance, and referrals for community resources. We also utilize support groups that focus on social skills, communication, and character-building. We also plan campus-wide activities that coordinated to address individual campus priorities.

Basic needs: school clothes, food, school supplies, holiday resources, and agency referrals for health services.

Mentor — Communities in Schools - Bay Area

Our G.R.O.W. Mentoring Program strategically matches caring adults with students in CCISD and Dickinson ISD. We believe that the more caring adults students have in their lives, the better equipped they will be when facing life's circumstances.

GIVE: Give your time. Be there for the students unconditionally to help them succeed, even in the midst of hard circumstances.

REACH: Reach students by gaining their trust. Meet them where they are.

OPPORTUNITY: Make a difference in the lives of students, be a caring, positive voice in their life.

WALK: Walk with students on their journey to help them see more, want more and be more.

FAQ's

How often do mentors meet with students?

The mentors will meet with students once a week for 30 minutes a day between now and the end of the school year.

Will my student be pulled from their academics?

No! I try my hardest to put together the schedules for the students and mentors to meet. They will never be pulled from vital learning time. Their times to meet will either be during Specials or Lunch.

Will the mentor be allowed to bring food to my child?

That is up to you. On the permission form I do ask for consent to see if the student is allowed outside food from the mentor. If you do not wish your child to get outside food then mark on the form that you do not consent.

Will my child have the same mentor throughout the year?

Yes. Once a mentor and mentee are assigned they stay with each other throughout the year. Our goal is for the mentor to follow the student all the way until they graduate from high school.

What will the mentor do with my student?

The mentors take into account what they student is interested in. They can play board games, go play basketball, draw, have lunch together, go out to the playground, or just even be there to talk to the student.

How to get your child involved?

Please reach out to me via email or by phone to let me know if you would like a copy of the Parent Permission Form.
