Mark Patterson is a: training specialist and educator, singer, composer,
instrumentalist, and gospel music enthusiast. With such a wide range
of abilities Mark has served in many musical capacities, including
working with national and international artists.
Mark has a BA in Music Education from Prairie View
A&M University (PV). He is a 3-time fellow of the Thurgood
Marshall College Fund -Teacher Quality and Retention
Program (TQRP). Mark studied conducting with Dr. A. Jan Taylor and
represented PV at the 2015 Texas Choral Directors Association
Convention.
Mark serves as Director of Choirs for Dickinson Junior High. Mr. Patterson has been a
choral director for the last 8 years of his 15 years as a choral director. In public school Mark has
piloted a leadership course that focused on the social, emotional, and occupational resiliency of
at-risk youth. A part of Mr. Patterson's prowess as an educator is his passion for curriculum
design, in which he has designed/ compiled several curriculums and is an author of a workbook
that has been used for youth.
He has excelled as a coach and educator producing consecutive winning UIL teams and
breaking several records in contest serving as director. Mark has coached over 5 singers that have
competed at the state level, earning them the distinction of being some of the best competing
singers in the state of Texas.
As an extension of research, Mark founded and is the Artistic Director of Gospel Music
Heritage Choral Society (GMHCS) a performing gospel choir that specializes in gospel music
circa 1950-1970.
Mark is an avid community worker and social justice advocate.
He is currently in his last semester at Lamar University pursuing a degree in Counseling,
in which he desires to use this knowledge to further help underserved populations that often lack
access to and understanding of mental and emotional health services.
Mark is married to his loving wife Kelsey, and has three children Kaelee, Kevin, and
Khalie (Cali). He is a resident of Texas City, Tx and has family ties to the cities of Barrett Station
(Crosby), Dayton, Liberty, Palestine, and Tyler Tx.
