COVID-19 College and University Standardized Testing Requirement 

  • Many college and universities are not requiring SAT or ACT scores for Fall 2022 admission. To know if the college you are applying to has gone "test optional", visit their admissions web page. Although a college entrance exam (SAT/ACT) may not be required, a college course placement test (TSI) may still be required.

  • College Application
    • The college must be added as “applying to” before requesting transcript
      • Adding a College:
        • Click on Colleges Tab
        • Click on Colleges I’m applying to
        • Click on + sign
        • Select College
        • Click “Add and Request Transcript”
        • Select Initial
        • SAT and ACT scores must be sent by the testing company. Selecting these in additional materials will not prompt them to be sent.
        • Click “Request and Finish”
      • If the college is already added:
      • Click on Colleges Tab
      • Select “Apply to College”, then “Manage Transcripts”
      • Click on + sign
      • Select “College Application Transcript”
      • Select “Initial”

SAT Fee Waiver:

You're eligible for fee waivers if you say "yes" to any of the following:

  • You're enrolled in or eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).

  • Your annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. 
  • You're enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., Federal TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
  • Your family receives public assistance. You live in federally subsidized public housing or a foster home, or are homeless.
  • You are a ward of the state or an orphan.

Go to D101 to get a fee waiver before registering

GET 4 FREE SAT SCORE SENDS:

  • After registering, select SEND SCORES WHEN AVAILABLE on the MySAT dashboard to send your scores automatically to 4 colleges for free.
  • You can use your free score reports up to 11:59 p.m., U.S. Eastern Time, nine days after the test.
  • Sending scores after the deadline above without a fee waiver will cost $12 per college.

Meet one or more of the indicators of economic need listed below:

 

• Enrolled in a federal free or reduced-price lunch program at school, based on US Department of Agriculture (USDA) income levels (see table).

• Enrolled in a program for the economically disadvantaged (for example, a federally funded program such as GEAR UP or Upward Bound). Note: If the student participates in a program, but is not economically disadvantaged, they are not eligible for a fee waiver.

• Resides in a foster home, is a ward of the state, or is homeless.

• Family receives low-income public assistance or lives in federally subsidized public housing.

• Family’s total annual income is at or below USDA levels for free or reduced-price lunches on the USDA Food and Nutrition Service website.

FINANCIAL AID

Financial Aid Applications for seniors starting with the graduating class of 2022 are required for graduation. If a student will not be attending a college, trade school, or university, a financial aid opt out form.

FAFSA Tips:

  • FAFSA opens October 1 for following aid year
  • Review the documents below for the items you will need and the questions that will be asked
  • Make sure your parent and you create your FSA ID before starting the online application
  • Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool
  • After your application is processed, read your Student Aid Report (SAR)
  • On your SAR, look for if you have been selected for verification. If selected, be on the look out for requests from your colleges for additional documents needed.

Dickinson High School 2020-2021 School Year

What is Dual Credit?

Dual Credit is a program that allows high school students to enroll in college classes for credit prior to high school graduation that can be applied towards high school and college graduation. The college credits can be transferred to other colleges or universities.

Steps to Enroll in Dual Credit

High School GPA- 3.0 or higher

Apply to COM at www.applytexas.org.

  • First-time users, click on “Create your Account now”.
  • After creating your profile,
    1. Click on “My Applications” tab
    2. Start a New Blank Application”
    3. “2-year school”
    4. Select College of the Mainland and select “YES” for dual credit
  • If you need assistance, visit the College and Career Center in D101

TSI 2 Test

  • Please refer to the chart below to see if you are exempt or waived from taking the TSI 2
    1. Provide your exempting or waived Test score report by email to ldeluna@com.edu
  • If not exempt or waived…
    1. After receiving your COM ID #, Go to: https://www.tsipreview.com/welcome/collegeofthe_mainland and complete the Pre-Assessment.
    2. TSI testing opportunities will be available at DHS for Dual Credit students who complete the application a week prior to the first offered testing date
    3. Students who miss the deadline to test at DHS, will need to get a voucher from D101 to test at COM’s testing center.
    4. Three TSI failed attempts in one academic year will result in disqualification for that registration period

Collegiate High School Requirements

Collegiate High School (CHS) helps students earn an associate degree while simultaneously completing a high school diploma.  Students save time and money on higher education. College of the Mainland (COM) waives 40 percent of tuition and fees for CHS students. 

CHS is an exciting place for responsible, mature teens who are ready for the academic challenge of college-level courses. Students entering this program are considered college students. High school procedures will not be followed in the college classes and college professors follow their own grading and attendance procedures. Professors do not send progress reports and other parental notifications home. Students must be mature and self-motivated to be successful. 

  • Review requirements:
    • DHS students must meet the requirements below to have application considered. Students may apply for junior or senior year.

  • Complete COM and CHS Google Form Applications:
     
    • COM Online application- www.applytexas.org
      • A COM ID is required to complete the Google Form application. Your ApplyTexas application will take several days to process before you are issued a COM ID.
    • CHS Google Form Application- Available in your DISD email following Spring Open House
      • Before beginning the Google Form application, make sure all required documents are ready to be uploaded in the format listed below. Students can edit after submission, but documents cannot be changed. If you have any questions about how to obtain a document, follow the instructions below.   • Include why you believe you would be a good candidate and why you should be selected for the CHS program.

    • Log into Skyward and save a PDF copy of your meningitis vaccination record if within last 5 years

  • Scan or take a picture of your vaccination record from your doctor with current meningitis vaccination record

  • Recommendations:
    • Parent recommendations will be completed from a separate link sent to the parent's email entered on the Google Form Application. 
      • Students need to make sure to have a working email address for their parent to enter in the Google form application.
    • The English, Math, and Science teacher recommenders email addresses need to be ready for input into the Google form.
    • Teachers, Assistant Principals, and Counselor will receive a Google form email following the submission of the student's Google form application.
      • These recommenders will have the week following the deadline to complete their recommendations.

    • All completed application will be reviewed by the student's counselor before final submission to the CHS office. The counselor will communicate with the student the result of the review and next steps.
  • Interview:
    • Students with applications submitted to CHS office should expect an email or call for an interview with the CHS office.
