Hello parents and students:

As you know, plans are changing with each press release and with action taken by local, state, and national authorities.  Please bear with us as we do our best to adjust accordingly.  This is a challenging time for all of us, but we are GATOR strong and will get through this together.  Here is some information that was given to us teachers that I am sharing with you:

Instruction for the Week of March 17–March 20.  The district has placed the icon pictured below on the District Website.  When parents/students click on the icon, they are connected to a list of websites that offer digital learning resources for students in grades PrK-12 for all courses/classes.  The resources are primarily enrichment/extension in nature.  These are the instructional materials for this week and for use at any time during the next four weeks while we are out of school.

Instruction for the next three Weeks; March 23 – April 10.  For the three weeks following, we will utilize this process/procedure.

·       The lessons for all classes will be posted on the teacher’s website each Friday by 5:00 PM.  This means for the week of March 23-27, the lessons will be posted no later than Friday, March 20 by 5:00 PM.  We will follow this same timeline/process for each of the three weeks with lessons posted no later than 5:00 PM on March 20, 27 and April 3.

·         In addition to posting the lessons and the materials electronically, we will be printing any materials/lessons for the upcoming week and distribute them to students who do not have access to the internet and/or to a computer.

·         At this time, we are not going to “formally” grade student work.  However, we will determine a way to give credit for work completed and turned in during the next four weeks.  Discussions are forthcoming on how to access work and give credit.  At this time, our primary focus is to provide high quality instruction and direction for our students.

Instruction for the Remaining FIVE – SIX Weeks:  April 13 – May 21.  If we resume classes as planned on April 13, we have a great opportunity to provide high quality instruction focusing on the ESSENTIAL STANDARDS (TEKS) that students must master in order to be ready for and to experience success in the next course or at the next level.   During the week of April 6-9, we will focus on writing lessons for the week of April 13 – 17 reviewing key concepts taught during the school year and those presented in the lessons provided during the four weeks we were out of school.  We will then focus on the essential TEKS for the remainder of the school year.   Final exams will be administered to seniors as planned May 13-15 and to students in grades 9-11 during the week of May 18-21.   We are waiting on information from College Board regarding AP exams.

STAAR/EOC.  The state has waived the STAAR for this year. How the students will make that up, if needed, is unknown at the moment.

HOPE Clinic.  The HOPE Clinic at DHS is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM for students and for staff.  If you need to see Ms. Lounds at the clinic, enter through the side doors near the tennis courts/softball fields.  Do not hesitate to come see her if you or one of your children become ill and you cannot get in to see your doctor or pediatrician.

SENIOR STUDENTS.  If you have a senior at home or you know one who is distraught over prom and/or graduation, please encourage them to stay calm and not panic.  DHS will host graduation, and at this time, it is still planned for May 21.  Prom is up in the air right now due to the City of Galveston order for all large-gathering events scheduled through May to be cancelled.  Once we return to school, we will find an alternate venue, and we will make sure that our students experience the time-honored tradition and the right of passage of the senior prom.

Welcome! My name is Sheri Davis.  I have been teaching for 25 years.  This is my second year in Dickinson ISD and I am so glad to be here.  I will be teaching the  Vocational class for the WAVE program.  In my class you can expect to have a safe, learning environment. We will be learning many things. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2019-20 school year!
