Welcome to Mrs. Marak's Science Classroom! at Dunbar Middle School

Mrs. Marak

 5th/6th Grade Science                   281-229-6653   nmarak@dickinsonisd.org

Your child will have science homework approximately once a week. Homework will be checked and will not be accepted late unless the student is absent. It is important that your child be on time to my class—their warm ups are factored into their grade.

Your child will create a science journal, and they function as their textbooks. It will have steps to solving problems and notes that need to be studied before quizzes or tests. This journals may be taken home as needed, but will need to be brought to class daily.

I encourage you to monitor your child’s grades in Skyward often. I will update these grades often. Please call the front office at 281-229-6600 and ask for a parent access password so you can log into my grade book and see your child’s assignments. If you see a *, this is not a zero. It just means I haven’t entered their grade yet. If your child doesn’t turn in their work or is assigned a zero, you will see the 0 as the grade, or a comment next to that assignment.

I will hand out tutorial passes in the beginning of the school year with a note about when they are scheduled. Students can come to tutorials to make up work or journal entries, get extra help, or ask questions about their curriculum. Students who are failing or not bringing materials to class may be required to attend tutorials. I will let you know ahead of time if your child is required to attend.
I will occasionally send emails to parents with reminders of tests, upcoming assignments, or students grades. Please make sure that your email address through Skyward is current.

My classes are structured and well-run.  I have a positive, structured system of discipline that will build work ethic, positivity and self-esteem, and will hold your child accountable for his or her choices. My goals are to ignite your child’s excitement for learning, develop positive relationships, grow a sense of integrity and foster a passion for life long learning.

Occasionally, I will need to contact you regarding your child’s behavior. I will do this by email, phone or written note. Please check your child’s planner often - please try to check it every day for the first few weeks—as teachers may write notes there. I also like to inform you of excellence your child shows in the classroom. Don’t be surprised if you get a positive call or note from me. I like to focus on positive behaviors and reinforce excellence and integrity in the classroom.
