Welcome! I am the Reading Interventionist here at Barber Middle School. I work with small groups of students in 5th and 6th grade, focusing on those with dyslexia, to support their reading growth.

This is my 4th year here at Barber and 12th year of teaching. I am originally from Pennsylvania and of course bleed Black and Gold--Go Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates! I graduated from Bloomsburg University receiving a degree in Elementary Education K-6 with a concentration in Language Arts. A few years in to teaching, I returned to school at the University of Mary Washington and earned my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction as a Reading Specialist. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my adorable Jackabea dog, Daisy, doing yoga, or reading.

Ways to Encourage Reading at Home:

  • Make a habit of your child seeing you read
  • Let your child choose what they want to read
  • Set aside a time to read nightly within your jam packed schedule
  • Create a cozy reading spot
  • Read with your child--take turns reading each page
  • Have your child read to a younger sibling
  • Provide access to books--create a home library and/or sign up for a public library card
  • Listen to audio books in the car and while doing chores
The mission of the Dickinson Independent School District is to ensure that all students have successful learning opportunities that help them reach their full potential and add quality throughout their lives.
