The Method of Mrs. McCord

Here are my expectations of you for my Science class this year.  I have high hopes for the amount of fun and learning we will encounter this year together.  Throughout the school year we will be exploring the world of science with many hands-on activities, labs, and other scientific explorations.

I.

Purpose & Research Question

What do I need to know to be successful in Mrs. McCord's class?

II.

Hypothesis

If I come to class prepared and ready to learn every day, I will be able to get the most out of Mrs. McCord's class.

III.

Materials

a. Pencil - It is your responsibility to come to my class with a pencil EVERY DAY. I recommend having 2 pencils, just in case.

b. Planner - You will be given a planner at the beginning of the year, you will need it EVERY DAY for class. It is your responsibility to write the topic each day and to keep up with what assignments are due and when in my class. I will also write notes to your parents in your planner, if needed.

c. AVID Binder- This is where we will keep some notes, assignments and homework for Science. Please do not recycle ANYTHING unless I tell you to.

d. Science Journal - Our journal will be used to keep all of our notes and experiments handy in case you need to review for a test. This journal will stay in my classroom every day. Each of you have a journal with your name and InterActive Notebook written on the front.

e. A growth mindset - You will need to come to class prepared to listen to directions, think about your answers, work together with classmates, and solve problems. Learn that it is ok to try and be wrong but not ok to not try.

IV.

Procedure

If you come to my class with a positive attitude and ready to work, then we will have a great year. It is my hope that each student comes to 6th grade ready for a challenge and ready to have fun learning about the world around us. The most important part of any student's ability to do well in class, is support at home.

**Parents please set your student up for success by helping them with homework, helping them learn how to be prepared for school each day, and helping them build the character and integrity they need to be successful for a lifetime.**

V.

Conclusions

The scientific method is an example of one unique approach that we will use to test various things throughout the year. There are many ways to solve a problem or find the answer to a question. I am looking forward to a great year!
