WHO IS MY AVID TEACHER???
Hi! I'm Mrs. Dell Tamblyn...Welcome to my classroom website!
I have been teaching in Dickinson ISD since February, 2014. I taught 7th grade Scientists until last year and am very excited about this new opportunity to teach the AVID Elective this year!
I originally earned a degree in electrical engineering from North Dakota State University and worked for five years as an engineer at NASA. I realized that my passion is to teach, and so I received my teacher's certification from the University of Houston--Clear Lake and taught 7th grade Scientists at Alvin Junior High until I had my first daughter. I have also worked as an educator at church. In addition to secondary teacher certification in Science, I am also certified to teach Gifted and Talented students and recently attended the AVID Summer Institute where I received training on how to teach the AVID Elective.
I have been happily married for 25 years and have two daughters. My oldest is a recent graduate from Texas A&M University and my youngest is a sophomore at University of North Texas.
Seventh and eighth graders bring me great joy and I love sharing the excitement of learning with them every day. The AVID Elective is especially dear to my heart because I have witnessed so many success stories come as a result of a student's participation in the program. I love helping students find their passions, helping them learn to be organized and well-equipped scholars, and especially helping them to be the very best version of themselves!!
In order to communicate most effectively with my students and their families, I periodically send emails via Skyward and I have set up an account with Remind 101 which allows me to text (or email) you and, if you wish, your student, reminders about assignments and due dates. I highly recommend joining Remind 101 so that you may be informed and receive the most up-to-date information. My cell phone number is not used, and I am not able to view your numbers either...it is a secure and confidential means of communication between us.
To join Remind 101:
Send a text message to 81010 with the following message:

If you have any questions throughout the year, please feel free to contact me. My phone number and email address are underneath my name to the left. My conference period is 7th period: 2:23 - 3:15 PM. If I do not answer, during this time, please leave a voice message, and I will return your call as soon as possible.
It's going to be a WONDERFUL year!
