Getting To Know Me

I have been teaching in DISD for over 20 years.  I have multiple teaching certifications as well as my principal certification.  I have taught Special Education, Dyslexia, Elementary, Middle School and am now in my 6th year at the Junior High.

I'm a family person. I have three kids, pets and a terrific husband. My daughter is a senior at the high school and very active in the Theatre program, and the boys attended DISD also.  Both my sons are Volunteer Firefighters as well as having other careers. My son Derek served as  a Combat Medic in the US Army stationed with the Old Guard in Arlington. I love to do things outdoors, especially motorcycle riding and camping. My favorite things are visiting State Parks in Texas, tubing rivers, going to the beach...just about anything that gets me out in nature.   Everywhere I go, I find great things to share with you in science class!

Science is my passion, but my favorite thing to do is to read.  I love teaching 8th grade (the perfect mix of crazy and academics). I'm a familiar face to many of you because I've been teaching in Dickinson for a very long time. Students say that I am very strict and have high expectations for the, but my class is fun and exciting. I never settle for just passing or good enough.  I bring my best and expect my students to do the same.

The 8th grade Science Team has worked very hard to make science exciting and challenging for all our students.  We have added so many exciting activities to the science curriculum!  Welcome to my class...hold on to your seat!

TUTORING:

THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS. There will be times when you need some extra help. If you need extra help understanding a concept, completing an assignment or just want some extra practice PLEASE come in for tutoring. Tutoring time is not play time, however. Come in with specific questions or assignments and be ready to work. Excellent behavior is expected.  All school rules still apply.  Students that cannot follow the classroom expectations will be asked to leave immediately. You must have a ride home.  Transportation is not provided.

LAB Participation:
If a student is engaging in behavior that disrupts the learning during lab, purposefully mishandles/misuses equipment or supplies, acts in a manner that is dangerous to others or is off task during the lab, NO warning will be given.  Student will be removed to an observation area where they can observe the lab, but not participate.  The student is still responsible for completing all assignments associated with the lab.
