Welcome to Principles of Law. Safety and Corrections.

My name is Annie Almendarez , I  retired from Law Enforcement after twenty one years of faithful and loyal service.  While in law enforcement , some of my duties included investigations(homicide,) child abuse fraud and many more.  I hope to bring to the classroom not only knowledge but experiences that will help the student understand how  law enforcement works.   Principles of Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security introduces students to professions in law enforcement, protective services, corrections, firefighting, and emergency management services. Students will examine the roles and responsibilities of police, courts, corrections, private security, and protective agencies of fire and emergency services. The course provides students with an overview of the skills necessary for careers in law enforcement, fire service, protective services, and corrections.

As an educator, I hope to bring with me the ability to mentor, teach and support this country's future. All children have the ability to learn, some at a faster pace than others. It is my personal belief that there is no such thing as a bad child- they make bad decisions. Decisions based on what they perceive or believe at that moment.  In today’s world, an educator has to compete with the world wide web and students immediately thinking what they have read is the law. An educator has to be able to turn that issue or issues into a learning lesson.  It is my job as an educator  to keep my students engaged so that they will feel empowered.  When a student enters my classroom they will know what is expected of them on the first day. When students  are in my classroom  they are all Gifted and Talented  and they will be pushed to use their mind  to be effective  future leaders.

Prior to coming to Dickinson and after my retirement  to teach, I spent two years in China, The experience of learning another culture is immeasurably . While I was there I taught  English, Communication and AP Macro economics. I even learned basic Mandarin.   The students enjoy when I speak Mandarin. I look forward to an awarding school year.
