I am so excited to be starting a new year and getting to know my new students.  This is my ninth year teaching a Criminal Justice course and I have some new things planned for this year.  I know if we all work together this will be a fun and interesting year.

Course Description: This course is recommended for students in Grades 11-12. Credit: 1 science credit

Prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry.

This is a full year (two semesters) course that focuses on the psychological and sociological science and uses a scientific approach to the investigation of crimes. Students will learn the field’s terminology and basic scientific procedures for the major forensic science fields as they relate to crime scene investigation. Using scientific methods, students will collect and analyze evidence through case studies and simulated crime scenes such as fingerprint analysis, ballistics, DNA fingerprinting, Impression Evidence, Criminal Behavior and Psychology, Hair and Fiber analysis, and blood spatter analysis. Students will learn the history, legal aspects, and career options for the various fields within forensic science and law enforcement.

Supplies Requested:

  • Composition style notebook

  • Folder with pockets (3 hole capability preferred)

  • Glue Stick

  • Pen/Pencil

Extra Credit:

  • Extra credit will not be given to bring up a grade.  Extra credit can only be earned as bonus points on a test.

    Absences/Late Work/Discipline:  District policies will be followed.  Please refer to the student handbook.

Grading:

  • Formative Assessments   50%

    Classwork, homework, labs, reading responses, minor projects, notebook checks, participation grades, case studies, vocabulary work

  • Summative Assessment    50%

    Tests, unit assessments, major projects/writing assignments, extended or intensive labs, presentations, 9-week curriculum based assessments
