Welcome to my page! I'm delighted to teach 6th grade Pre-AP and regular science.

ABOUT ME
I began teaching after several years in public relations and community education. I am passionate about my career and seek ways to make learning fun and accessible for all learners. I love Pokemon Go, gardening, Corvettes, interior design, SCUBA diving, singing and spending time with my family outdoors. I am a HUGE fan of Christian hip-hop/rap artist TobyMac.

MY FAMILY, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

My husband of 18 years is a science teacher at Dickinson High School. We also have two school-aged sons. I have two dogs, three cats, a turtle, lots of fish. We give back to the community through service projects and help local animal shelters by fostering litters of kittens until they are adoptable.

I have a B.A. in English from Old Dominion University in Virginia, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I have double minors in psychology and secondary education. I'm pursuing my Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Texas at Arlington, and plan to graduate in May 2018. I have written science curriculum for two states with STEMScopes, (a national online curriculum company that our district uses), NASA and UTMB, Galveston ISD, and Dickinson ISD.  After teaching 3rd and 4th grade in Galveston ISD for 2 years, I joined DISD 12 years ago as a fourth-grade teacher, and moved to Dunbar 5 years ago to pursue my love of teaching STEM subjects to older students. My teaching background includes certifications in all subjects Pre-K through 8th grade, and English as a Second Language. I am in my twelfth year of being certified to teach Gifted and Talented students and have over 250 hours of specialized science teacher training. I have served as a district mentor twice to teachers who are new to the career. I work well with students of all abilities, including G/T kids, those with ADHD, behavioral issues and autism, because my sons have given me a lot of on-the-job training in all of those areas!

My passion is to help students realize their dreams through problem-solving and project-based lessons that will challenge them and raise their confidence to new heights. I am honored to teach the next generation of scientists and help them realize that ANYTHING is possible if they believe in themselves and are willing to work (and play) hard.

The mission of the Dickinson Independent School District is to ensure that all students have successful learning opportunities that help them reach their full potential and add quality throughout their lives.
